Medical College, Davangere was established in the year 1965.It is affiliated to Mysore University, Mysore and Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta, Shimoga.In the year 1996 it got affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore. It is carrying out need based health system research work with an eye to use such strategies to cover the overall community development.

The J.J.M. Medical College includes Bapuji Hospital, Bapuji Child Health Institute and Research Centre, Chigateri General Hospital (District Hospital) and Women and Children Hospital. The hospitals have facilities in General Medicine, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Radiodiagnosis and Anaesthesiology. The college provides hostel facilities for both boys and girls separately with a provision for single and double occupancy to accommodate 1092 boys and 768 girls. The Library and Information Center has a total floor area of 72,000 Sq. Ft. with 1500 seating capacity spread over three floors.
